About

Insite is a student-run, non-profit, independent media organisation whose main aim is to promote student life and to provide students with a means by which to be heard. Insite also works to raise awareness and encourage debate amongst students, to promote their initiatives in culture and education, and to safeguard their freedom of expression.

This year, the main objective is to build upon the success of previous years, mainly by improving its print content, website and audiovisual media, while at the same time increasing interest and participation from students. Insite also seeks to further its international partnerships while reinforcing its position as one of the leading student organisations on campus.

Our Products

Insite has three main media products which together complete our brand. These are Print, Web and Video.

'the Insiter' - the leading student publication in Malta

Before Insite as an organisation was born, there was only a humble newspaper of just a few pages known as ”The Voice’. This newspaper was changed to ‘Insite’ and finally to ‘the Insiter’ before the organisation was set up and became senate-recognised. The newspaper advanced to 32 pages and finally reached a 48-page status in 2008. During that same year, the publication became a news-zine and started being printed on forest sustainable paper (the first in Malta!). In October 2010, the publication started being printed in full colour. It is printed 8 times a year, 5000 copies per issue and reaching an audience of 12,000+ readers at the University of Malta, Junior College Msida, St. Aloysius Sixth Form, De La Salle Sixth Form, St Martins Sixth Form, Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, Bighi University, MCAST Mosta and Paola, Mater Dei Medical School and wards, St. James Cavalier and Gozo University Campus and Sixth Form.

Our website, insiteronline.com, was founded in 2007. The website features almost daily updates on news, features, culture, opinion, events and media. In April 2010, the website was revamped in order to be more user friendly. The website is a branch of the publication while this website (insite.org.mt) was created for the executive side of Insite.

'the Insiter TV' - Visit our Youtube channel: insitemalta

Our audio-visual media began as a project known as Insite TV back in 2007 through the use of our YouTube channel: insitemalta. This also included a studio programme called InfoPoint. Last year, Insite TV was changed to inTV and included a new logo and 3D intro graphics for programmes and videos. In October 2010, Insite decided that instead of separating the brands it should unite them. Therefore, inTV was finally changed to ‘the Insiter TV’ with a spanking new logo and features to boot like its Flash Interview sessions. New videos posted on the web channel can now also be seen on insiteronline.com’s main page.

Quotes

“I think there’s great potential [in current student journalists], and the Insiter is proof of this…Insite has a gold mine in its hands. You’ve had some really great investigative stories that were also picked up by mainstream press…”

- Karl Schembri (Maltese author and journalist) interviewed in The Insiter, Edition 2, October 2008.
